Looking for Fibromyalgia Medication Alternatives

I'm allergic to Lyrica and my doctor just had me stop taking gabapentin because it was making me too sick. does anyone know of any other meds for fibromyalgia?

      Have you tried any injections like epidural steroid injections or trigger point injections? Or topical medications at all. I once did a trial of Clonidine which is sometimes used off label for Fibromyalgia.

        @CoffeeAndDogs trigger point injections work for me tops 36 hours it's such a waste of money. At least in my opinion

      I've found every few years my muscle relaxers become immune so I have to switch it up. I've been on Cyclobenzaprine/ Flexeril, Baclofen (briefly, couldn't tolerate), Tizanidine/ Zanaflex, and now on Methocarbamol/Robaxen.

      Naltrexone is the cousin drug of Methadone, Naloxone, and Suboxone/Buprenorphine. These meds were primarily used to treat opiate dependency as it is what's known as a partial opioid antagonist. Basically, it fits in the opiate receptors in the same way a true opiate would. Because of this, some people find pain relief from this. For Fibromyalgia, Naltrexone is prescribed in a low dose form. This low dose form has to be custom made at a compound pharmacy which can make it tricky to get covered by insurance. Suboxone/Buprenorphine would be more readily available and works in a similar fashion. However, you would have to go through a Medication Assisted Treatment program to be monitored closely. Similar to most meds prescribed for Fibromyalgia, these meds can have serious side effects that can be intolerable when starting. Some people also have sensitivity to the adhesive in the Buprenorphine topical patches.

      Methocarbamal is generic Robaxan. It is a muscle relaxer with a pain reliever. Meloxicam is generic Mobic. It is am anti-inflammatory and treats artists. I take both of these. The Naltrexon treats addiction. For you, it helps you not get addicted to the hydrocodone by blocking the receptors that make you feel high. Someone else m8ght know more about this one.

        @HowPow I can help I think. Naltrexone is a drug generally used to treat CRAVINGS for opiates AND alcohol. But in low doses it can treat nerve pain.

      I take Methocarbomal, Meloxicam and two natural products (Fibralgia and IR relief) - it doesn't take it away, but makes me a little more functional if I don't take anything.

      I understand completely. Cymbalta is great, Amitriptyline, and a good muscle relaxer. I also do aqua therapy.

        @Lunabean they would not be my choices. Cymbalta was horrible for my head (violent mood swings) and Amitrityline knocked me out to the point my kids couldn't wake me up. I take Zoloft, Mobic, Trazadone and Roboxan for my Fibro. I've had my diagnosis for 25 years so I've been through a lot of meds. It truly is trial and error to find the right combo.

          @HowPow I had bad side effects with Cymbalta as well. But I know many people it has helped. I'm on Amitriptyline instead and find it helpful. I'm an insomniac so take it at night to help me sleep. But I know a lot of parents would prefer not to take anything sedating like that.

          @HowPow my own experience as well, Cymbalta was very rough for me, I was very detached and had a flat affect, which is not me. It was scary.

          @CoffeeAndDogs I was just recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia so I am still finding coping ways depending the degree of the flare up.

      If your comfortable sharing please do!! Because I'm at my wits end! I use medical marijuana on top of the gabapentin and oxycodone for pain and without the gabapentin I feel like my whole body is on fire 24/7 and I have what I call tazer shocks all over my body 100times worse than they used to be!

      I am on a mixture of meds. I can share if you want? I mean they work for me. But person is so different. Each flare up can be different.
