Warning this gets a bit venty lol So I had a really weird conversation with my mother today? I guess she's either clueless, in denial, or trying to gaslight me on purpose. She keeps saying I'm not sick because no one's told her my diagnoses. (which isn't true she's been told a lot of them when I was younger) however now I'm an adult and my conditions have been worsening/new stuff is popping up and of course they are not telling her because it's confidential. We basically have a whole pharmacy's worth of medication for me in our kitchen cupboards. I can't drive because of my conditions. She has to drive me for various treatments and to pick up my prescriptions, yet she claims to have never known I was ill and she doesn't believe me when I say something. I also end up in the ER from my conditions at least every couple months? How can she not know I'm sick?

It's definitely possible to be a whole load of different feelings that can combine into a complex excuse for ignoring your illnesses. Denial can boil down to a few things like jealousy, lack of proper processing, general confusion, lack of knowledge on the topic, etc. It's definitely a wide variety. She can't choose to ignore to professionals giving genuine diagnoses and still say she "has never known." That isn't logically how it works, and it sounds like she isn't using any logic. The only person that will ever understand is you. Proud of you for believing yourself even when challenged. That's hard on a person.

I know it's hard to deal with real issues and disorders that don't show up in scans and blood tests. I had my mom doubting me for years, even after multiple hospitalizations and lost jobs. I know the feeling. She has come around and is now supportive and believes the diagnoses, but it took a few years of sticking with it and not caving to her warped thinking. I think she was just scared and in denial. Just stay true to yourself and take care of yourself the best you can. Listen to your doctors and yourself, you know what's really going on. Hopefully she'll come around eventually.
