I'm 28, mom of two. Two weeks ago I went to the ER for upper right abdominal pain and was told I have a slightly fatty liver. I have tried to make adjustments to my diet which seems to help but I am still having discomfort. Last night I thought it might be appendicitis so, I contacted an online doctor through my insurance. He told me that it sounds like acute Gastritis and heart burn and prescribed me Omeprazole and Dicyclomine. I am also seeing a gastroenterologist but not until May 25th. I can't seem to find anything sooner and am debating if I should return to the ER. I am feeling very overwhelmed, and depressed, and having constant panic attacks and fears of death now. I can't get out of my head.

First, don't dispair. You can't take care of yourself, or anyone else, unless you take one step at a time. I've been diabetic for over 45 years, and now am diagnosed with NAFLD. It's about self care.

when I went to the ER, my blood work showed my liver enzymes out of whack. They did a CT scan and MRI and found the stone stuck in the duct to the liver. They immediately admitted me and took care of removing it. It was a quick procedure called an ETCP procedure. I then scheduled to get my gallbladder removed so no more stones got stuck. I had severe pain when it got stuck, but have had symptoms for a long time.

@OMGThisIsFine i feel like there's something blocking a duct but i had a ct scan and ultrasound and they didn't find anything. I feel bloating and pressure on my right side all the time.

Since I made this post I found out that I have a bacterial infection and am currently taking antibiotics for it. Since taking the antibiotics (I have 2 days left) I have started to feel so much better but am still experiencing mild diarrhea. I did go back to the ER where they did an abdominal CT scan this time (I didn't give the antibiotics time to see if they would helpšŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø) and found literally nothing wrong with me. The doctor even said my liver looked fine, needless to say I feel kind of like I'm going insane.šŸ™ƒ

@bubblebea glad you are feeling better. I understand the anxiety all to well. Take care

My gastro told me that a slightly fatty liver will not cause any symptoms. Sorry you are going through this. Maybe they can do a CT scan

Lastly, I hope my story didn't make you more fearful, that was not my intention! But just know I was treated and I feel much better! And try not to have fear over this. Anxiety can also make digestive issues so much worse! (Also, I know, totally easier said than done!!). You're going to be fine ā¤ļø

Ask to check your gallbladder and liver enzymes and such. I also have a fatty liver and have only mild pain in the right side from time to time(I was told fatty liver usually doesn't cause pain), but had my gallbladder removed because of stones. I had mild right side pain on and off for a long time before my gallbladder got really bad. When I was pregnant, they thought I had heartburn but it turned out to be a gallstone stuck in the bile duct. (My daughter was born April of 2021 and my gallbladder removed July 2021). The first time I went to the ER for it, they didn't catch it. Again, written off as heartburn. The pain then was the upper abdomen and slightly to the right. I was in so much pain. I went back to the ER because the pain got so bad, I thought I was having a heart attack! Finally they caught it. Apparently my liver enzymes in my blood work sky rocketed because of the blockage. This was my own personal experience and I am not a doctor, but it couldn't hurt to ask to have them check things out if you are having so much discomfort.

@OMGThisIsFine how did they find the gallstone?

@OMGThisIsFine When I first went they preformed an x-ray and an ultrasound of the area so the liver, pancreas, kidney, spleen, gallbladder, stomach, etc. They also did blood and urine labs. I also had chest pain thinking I was having a heart attack, which is why I went it. It was different than my panic attacks, but the ekg showed everything was fine. The doctor told me my gallbladder "looked perfect" my mom even told me she isn't sure about the diagnosis. My dad thinks I have gastritis which Is caused by stress and I have been under a lot of stress lately. It's really affecting me mentally. I'm having an extremely difficult time with my mental health, panic attacks, intrusive thoughts, depression, and a crippling fear of death. I just had my second child in November and I just can't seem to be happy and am mentally exhausted.
