After being on Adderall for the last 5 years they forced me off of it cold turkey because they thought I had a heart issue. The cardiologist cleared me and made it like they had no reason to take me off. Now after barely functioning for 4 months, school is starting and they won't let me get back on it because I tested positive for cannabinoids in my system. obviously I've told them it helps me sleep and no one said it was going to be an issue with getting my meds. It's honestly the only thing that's gotten me through this whole thing and now I don't know what to do because it was NOT an issue before they took me off it. I just feel there's no point in trying and I should just drop out and live in a hole. It's just not fair

@oddity_hunter SUCCESS! 💜 thank you for the updates! You’ve been busy on those phone calls. Also the first doctor wow. Unethical. Glad you found a new one not just for med access, but also ethics and transparency.

Honestly if you’re a cannabis user, if you’re able to find a doctor who supports your cannabis use (depending on where you live and what the drug laws are) you will feel much more free. I had to switch psychiatrists for this very reason: my old doc wouldn’t prescribe me adderall if I was smoking weed, and the day I was asked for a UA finally happened, so I immediately switched docs and my new doc is a godsend honestly at least after appointment number one. I’m so sorry you have to experience life unmedicated, especially cold turkey, because I understand how effing hard that is! But yeah, if you’re able to find a psych that will be ok with cannabis use then you’ll feel so much better

Also, once you’re back on ask your PCP how often insurance requires drug test. Mine is once a year and I mark it on my calendar in advance to stop using marijuana til I’ve done the pee cup. Lol

@Chickpea75 thank you so much for your kind words! It's crazy not being alone in this situation. So, an update, I contacted my insurance to ask about this stuff and they said they have no problem with thc at all the doctor has to just approve it. So she lied to my face because she said the insurance wouldn't approve it. So I called a mess trying to switch and they said at that practice most still won't give it to me. So I called my friends psychiatrist and they said I couldn't get an appointment until January but then that doctors assistant called, heard my situation and got me in August 31! And I VERIFIED on the phone that they don't care about marijuana use!!! Things are turning around! 💖

I’m so sorry you’re going through this 😥 would it be possible for you to get a second opinion with a different doc? I had a psychiatrist who denied my med refills cold turkey and gaslit me, and after a lot of stress I found another doc who was aghast at his behavior and started me back up on everything

@ath3na this is the 2nd doctor I've switched to. I was thinking about switching but not sure if a different one would say the same about the THC present. If it's legal I don't see why it's an issue, and it wasn't with my pediatrician somehow. I just hate going through all the bs of switching for them to do the same thing. She claims it's because the insurance won't cover it so I asked if I could pay out of pocket for this month and then test clean for the insurance next month but who knows. The worst part was at my appointment she approved it and everything was good and then they called me a few hours after and made me come BACK to the office to tell me nevermind I can't get it until everything is negative which is bs bc they've had the test results for a week and didn't bother looking at it. It broke my whole heart because I thought I finally did it! Just for something else to go wrong.

@oddity_hunter based off this, it really sounds like it’s just the insurance. I have lots of pharmacy and insurance claim experience, and I personally go through the same struggle with my Concerta:/ You can 100% buy it out of pocket (w/o insurance) as long as the doc has sent the Rx to the pharmacy. Legally. You can. Secondly, it’s a bit validating, although I’m sorry to hear about your situation with the cardio problems. I found out I have hyperthyroidism which was causing rapid heart rate and I was advised by my psychiatrist to stop taking it until my heart rate was back down. My PCP today who handles my heart had the same reaction as your cardiologist. So thankfully I was able to get it filled today. I was freaking out about starting my senior year in college without medication. Like full on panic mode. The only thing that really eased this anxiety/hopelessness was that it is temporary! You are resilient and will find a way to get your meds, even if it is a month from now(god forbid). And if you do not have accommodations set up at your college, I would contact you SAEO NOW. Your profs should work with you if you explain the situation. You got this! I know how easy it is to feel like you don’t, like you’ll f*ck everything up, but that’s your past ADHD struggles speaking to you. You are a better and stronger and more skilled person. You might surprise yourself with how well you’re gonna keep your head above water in the face of it all, even if your arms are sore at the end of the day trying to stay afloat. Believe me. You are capable of more that you know! Godspeed with meds and school. Call your pharmacy and touch base. Get accommodations and communicate with your professors. ❤️don’t forget to breathe and give yourself grace! And if you need to take a break in the meantime, school will always be there waiting for another day. (I took a 2 year break to get my meds straight once and it felt like the end of the world. Probably the best decision I’ve ever made.) Sorry for the long reply. It all just resonated and I told you what I would want to hear! Peace and love.
