So 2 days ago I read this novel. It was boring at first, but became interesting halfway through, but also creeped me out. I didn't see that as a red flag about this author, so yesterday I picked up another of his books. I barely got through 1 chapter before I was crying. I put the book down and went to bed. I cried myself to sleep that night, had a horrible nightmare even though I take medication that prevents that, and woke up feeling horrible. I'm not gonna finish the book. what should I do to stop this from happening again?

Definitely avoid reading triggering books and viewing any material like that as much as you can and honestly talk out loud about how you found it! I find it so helpful finding someone to talk to, a professional or parent or friend or even better multiple people and recounting that experience and what it made you think and feel and it really quenches those fears and makes it way easier to move on and stay calm just takes all the power from it facing the reality that way

@Igglepiggle I'm not gonna remember what was triggering to me about the books, only that those particular books were triggering. Should I keep a list of triggering topics that I add to whenever I find something else that triggers me so I can avoid those topics?
