My friends with Cervixes, I have a colposcopy question for you. I just had one done and was expecting a fairly smooth procedure, but I was in so much pain and crying during it. Even after I've been in pain and it almost feels like my doctor is still snipping out tissues samples. Honestly, I don't do well with pap smears either. Those hurt me and make me feel nauseous too. That being said, everything I read says pap smears and colposcopies are relatively pain free and you just might experience minor discomfort. So I'm just curious if anyone else gets this major pain and if you know why we get it?

You need to change doctors!!!! A colonoscopy should be pain free!!! I’ve had at least 4 and never felt a thing. Same with female exams. But I ONLY GO TO FEMALE DOCTORS!!!! As an RN for 38 years, I refuse to see male docs for colonoscopy or female issues. My husband is a doctor and he totally gets it!!!! We live in California so there are Plenty of women docs in all specialties!!!! Plus, if it hurt and you were crying out in pain? He needs to quit doing them. He has no empathy. And, tell him exactly why you are going elsewhere.

Paps, internal ultrasound, all that was painful. I ended up having a D&C and had thicking of the uterus. I was given pain pills for that. Doctor said everything looked fine but I asked for a hysterectomy and she said ok. Ended up having fibroids, cyst on my ovaries and a tilted uterus. In all my years of lady problems no one ever told me any of those things. Only said I had pcos. I say this to tell you that you need to be your own advocate. If you know something is wrong then see a different doctor.
If I don't get a good dose of propofol, a colonoscopy is so agonizing that I'd scream the whole time. I've had at least a dozen at this point. The biopsy sites will bother me for days, too. I'm pretty sure the pain level is often related to the inflammation level/tissue damage
