so I've had my ADHD diagnosis for a few months now. I live at home and have yet to tell either of my parents that I'm medicated for it or even that I have it. I'm an adult so I know it's my business but I'm worried they'll notice I've gotten more productive and start taking jabs at me verbally for it until I just break and tell them what's up which I really don't want to do because it's just more ammunition for them. I just needed to get that off my chest

The lecture I constantly have to give myself is- you can't predict the future. You can't predict others reactions and emotions. And when you play the what ifs, you also have to consider the opposite. What if they take jabs at you? What if they are proud that you have made a positive change in your life? There's no way of knowing, no matter your past experiences. It's much easier to give this advice than to take it. But I paid a therapist for it, so I figure I should pass it on.

Honestly, I wouldn’t bother mentioning it. If they do ask, just say you’ve been feeling more focused and motivated (which isn’t a lie!) As an adult you have your own medical autonomy, and medications and diagnoses are personal information you do not have to give out. In a toxic family environment, half-truths and lies to protect yourself are 100% okay and nothing to feel bad about. It’s your health journey- not theirs

The fact is ... you reaching out to you doctors for guidance to try to better your health and quality of life show you are proactive and healthy minded. Never hold back your success for anyone. If the diagnosis/ medication is an issue with someone for religious reasons, you can argue God expects you to use your resources and put your bet foot forward. Your body is your temple. If their reasoning to heckle you is because they are anti title and meds.. well that's ok ..FOR THEM.. like they made that decision.. you get to make yours. It is your success and quality of life. If they respect you they should encourage or at the least be respectful to your decision. You get one life, and it truly goes by too fast. Please don't let anyone hold you back on be your best self. Your body is like a car and has different fluids that it needs to run properly. If your body does not make it adequately, then we must substitute it with a medication. It would be like sitting their mad because your car won't go because it doesn't have gas and you refusing to put more in the tank. If they don't understand.. your healthy minded..proactive.. and perhaps in this scenario you have taken on the parent role and they are like know it all teens that refuse to try a new food, or clothing item.. they have their own maturing to do. Don't let it hold you back. I wish you well. Kellykristine52323@gmail.com
