Is a diagnosis needed for DID? I'm wondering, since I'm unsure if people need to be diagnosed to have DID. And if one is unsureーbut is clearly not one person (mentally), or has clear signs of DID, could they potentially have DID?

Just like any disorder, you need a diagnosis to be medically recognized with it. I dont quite understand your question, but it is common for one to not know they have DID for large number of years. Another disorder, besides DID, that has alters is OSDD.

@Sunflower.System Oh, thank you! That's all I really needed to know. The question was really based around "does DID need a diagnoses or can it be identified by the person themself"
@1ndigen0uS 'Identified' meaning aware or somewhat knowing, not self-diagnosed!
