So I know a lot of women with PCOS have irregular and heavy painful periods but I haven't had a period at all in almost over a year. I have tried to talk to my doctor about it but got no answer in return just got put back on the pill and that's it. Is there a way that I can have an active period again?

I have to take Medroxyprogesterone for 10 days every 3 months in order to have a period every 3 months. My GYNO said as long as I have 4 a year, I'm safe from my lining building up and it helps prevent cancer from forming. I have no menstruation if I don't take that medication. But it's less risky than the monthly birth control.

I also never get my periods while using birth controls and my doctor said it’s definitely normal. The birth control is pretty powerful, so sometimes it can thin out the endometrium so much that there’s nothing to shed during the period. I suggest you go for another doctor just to hear another opinion and get confidence about this situation

Most birth control pills just pump you with more hormones, it's kind of like triggering fake periods. I have always had irregular periods, and when I do have them it's like all the periods I've missed are clumped into the one and they are just AWFUL. It sounds like you have a Dr that doesn't fully understand PCOS. It's an imbalance in the way our body makes hormones. Putting more random hormones into us (going back on the pill) does not solve anything! My periods seem to finally be stabilizing. The way I got to this point is I found a more naturalistic Dr. They took some labs and sat down with me and talked through every line of my blood tests. They showed me what my hormones are and are not doing, and we have found ways to fix the actual problems - not just by stuffing me with more hormones to force my body to ovulate, but by getting to the core problems and naturally stabilizing the levels.
