I have been diabetic since 1981, and have always tried to be honest. But get me upset when you get charged more for car insurance, but cannot claim disability.

It's autoimmune. It can happen to anyone at anytime. It's definitely devastating and life altering. It takes a little bit to get use to I will be ok

@K9 Maybe but when you are going gym being healthy it can be a big shock honestly made me depressed thought my gf would leave me when i found out I had it.
@K9 I’ve had T1d for 25 I’m still not used to it, it’s just something I have to do to survive and to live. I don’t let it control me or my live, I control it.
@DiabeticNomad Thats a good set mind you got there honestly you own it and that's great! 💯
I got diagnosed 3 days before my 24th birthday, it was a shock but my dad developed type one at the same age as I was so there was always a possibility. I’m 26 now and I still find it hard to come to terms with. Having to rewire my brain and break life long habits that I can no longer do without great difficulty. I would like to think it will get easier, but don’t be too hard on yourself. I used to be so uptight about doing everything right with my diabetes that I didn’t have a life for the first year of my diagnosis. You are born with type one, if you have the antibody you will get type one. It could be 2 years old or 40. I don’t know why but I did a super helpful course through the hospital (uk). It helped me a lot and answered a lot of my questions and I now have a better understanding of diabetes it’s self and it helped me gain alot more confidence 😊
@Glitchwitch Thankyou so much for reading my post, I will take your advice about the course and its good to hear that it gave you more confidence 🤗

One user mentioned being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 27, and another was diagnosed at 28. It seems that there are others who have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes later in life, so you are not alone in this experience.
