hi everyone! i have a question about dbt. i’m learning about the what (observe, describe, participate) and how (nonjudgementally, onemindfully, effectively) skills. for some reason i’m really confused about the nonjudgemental one. my therapists say that a judgement can be both good and bad. i’m just not sure what is considered a judgement and how to distinguish what is a good judgement and a bad judgement. also wondering how to apply the skill. i know this is probably really simple in someone else's eyes, but i have trouble learning so anything helps. thank u so much

Without judgement would be without adding an opinion it kinda. Like looking at facts only. Examples you have a bf who is late coming home. Judgemt would be implying that probably this or probably that. Making a whole narrative about something. It's just seeing what is in that moment for what it is. Then u don't drive yourself into a spiral of anxiety or whatever else.

Hello! So in my opinion a judgement is a thought on a situation, that's not an opinion. I'd say a good judgment would be to not to get in a car with a drunk driver. A bad judgement would be like overreacting in a situation like jumping out the window of a building because there's a bee in the room and bees make you uncomfortable. But like a judgement about yourself kinda thing? Calling yourself weird for example. My therapist tells me to refrain from judgements like these but in this case.. Weird can mean a freak or it can simply mean different. It all depends on how you look at things. Perspective is key. Idk if any of that helped but I gave it a shot.
