Depression is such a hard disease and I was diagnosed in 2020 with major depression and anxiety disorder, im on medication and see a psychiatrist but I feel like that's not enough..I wait an hour to see him and spend 15 minutes with him, just long enough to get my prescriptions...I feel like that does nothing for me and I struggle every with my thoughts. I just want to know if anyone has any idea on what else I can do; deal, manage or what. I'm at a loss and feel alone because no one understands the struggle so I go through it by myself.

I recommend seeing a therapist. Psychiatrist are not required to spend more than fifteen minutes as they are there for medication management. Psychologists and licensed therapists and social workers are there to listen to your problems so that is the route I would go for help. While medicine can help, therapy can really be where the hard work is done.

You’ve got a lot going on. You should not be trying to deal with all of this by yourself. I also have a lot of health issues. Osteoarthritis in every joint, emphysema, SVT(random rapid heartbeat), depression, hypothyroid and non-alcoholic liver disease. I take care of my 29 y/o daughter with special needs and epilepsy. I lost my job last April because I have insomnia and then oversleep. It’s all a lot and it is very helpful to talk things out with someone. And definitely kick that psychiatrist to the curb and find someone new.

A therapist should definitely help. It feels good to open up to someone and get things off your chest. Someone who will listen. I highly recommend it!😀

I have lupus, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, osteopenia...my body is just breaking down too and that adds to it but I never have someone ask me how I'm feeling, physically or mentally, and I have all this pressure on me to do this and that...I'm just wore out and I keep it all bottled inside

And….you should definitely NOT have to deal with this on your own.

I was seeing a LICSW/MSW. She’s a licensed social worker with a master’s in sw. I’m going to switch to a different therapist though because I think I need a “better fit”. There are therapists with many different specialties.

What kind of therapist should I see? Yeah no it is literally 15 minutes to just ask how I'm doing and write my prescriptions and then we are done. What's worse is suicide is on my mind daily and I also have so many health problems, I see 5 different doctors for everything I have going on. It just makes it worse because I have no one who asks how I'm doing or hey do you need to talk...I deal with this on my own.

Hi Danelleml, I’m sorry this is happening. In my opinion, your psychiatrist should spend more than 15 minutes with you. I would look for a new Dr. And if your not already speaking with a therapist, that would probably be helpful. I’m new to this depression journey but I’ve been told that there’s nothing wrong with seeking out the best Dr and therapist that works for and meets your needs.
