Has anyone ever been treated like they were crazy just for having bipolar? I told my 3 best friends about possibly having it and nothing even happened between us, but they started talking to me like I was going to explode. They totally dropped me. I don't even know what to do.

@Starlightie yeah, I had a bunch of similar things growing up. especially hard to hear people comparing you to their "psycho" relatives like that, makes you feel responsible even when you're completely different people.

Whenever I was diagnosed with BP2, I was so scared of this exact thing. When I was growing up, my father would constantly trash on my mom because her brother is bipolar and my father would always mention it during arguments and accuse her of being "just like her psycho brother". The stigma behind bipolar is hard to live with.

@Meebs.Beebs Exactly. My cousin is in jail over a manic episode and any time she's brought up around me I can just feel the atmosphere change and people start giving me weird looks. Like I promise I'm not gonna stab y'all with a plastic knife, chill out.

Some people treat me like I'm dangerous. Those who don't understand and are unwilling to learn are not people you need in your life. A good support system doesn't always mean people you talk to like a therapist. It's people who understand and accept you, those who lift you up instead of making you feel bad. While losing friends can be incredibly difficult, in the long run those who do not support you do not deserve a place near you. It isn't selfish to remove people from your life if they are causing harm.
