I have had a lot of trauma. What's important to know is that it causes brain damage; even verbal or emotional abuse has the potential to cause scar tissue in the brain. However, there is such thing as Post Traumatic Growth, and it's inspiring to learn about and implement. Also scientists have found that at all ages our brains have the amazing capacity of neuroplasticity. It's very hopeful. EMDR after DBT or building a solid collection of coping skills is also backed by science. That's my next step, but in the meantime, my array of coping skills include yoga, playing/learning several musical instruments, reading, hiking, painting, and using singing bowls. It's important to make a safe place for yourself, even if it's mentally. Remember that the present moment is your friend. Take care. š
