I used to be a heavy drug user (been sober seven months now) but I'm finding it difficult to manage my anxiety without illicit drugs. Any advice?

Congratulations on your sobriety! Seven months is such a huge breakthrough. I work in mental health research and I want to at least propose something. I direct my anxieties to another fixation. When I get very anxious, I pop a mint or other hard candy into my mouth to relax myself. I know it sounds silly, but training yourself to grab something else when you feel those anxieties is so powerful in the brain itself.

I used alcohol as my go to for a couple years, my best advice is to find a support group. Not necessarily AA or anything, but like you're doing here. I used talk therapy and THC to help keep me off of it. Having a furbaby helps too.
