Can I do something besides medication? I am on the waiting list for therapy.

And most importantly remind yourself that you are safe and it isn't your fault. What happened isn't happening in the moment(I hope). You are safe, you are in control, you are worthy. Think it, whisper it to yourself, look yourself in the eyes in the mirror and say or think it. Whatever is most comfortable. It will feel silly and stupid, because you won't believe the good you're saying/thinking. But it's the truth, and you need to cancel out your brains bad thoughts.

Meditation. Guided apps help if you're new to it. Make sure you're somewhere quiet, comfy, etc. I like to lay in bed on a soft blanket, because that texture is relaxing to me. Lay on something, hold something, wear something, anything that brings peace and comfort. Calming herbal teas, scents, etc. can help too~ If you find yourself having a trigger, take some deep breaths. Inhale through your nose for 5 seconds, exhale through your mouth for 7 seconds. Or imagine a square and count to 4 from corner to corner. 1, 2, 3, 4 corner, 1, 2, 3, 4, corner, etc. Place a hand on your chest, right over that middle sternum area. The gentle pressure can supposedly trigger the same signals to your brain as a hug. Weighted blankets too, if you're not claustrophobic.
