I've been dealing with this since I hit puberty. I was told when I was 16 I have this and they also told me it was so bad that I couldn't conceive my own children so I have now opted twice for a hysterectomy to just take it all out and so I can quit dealing with the pain of this and so I've talked to my gynecologist and she has dismissed my claims to this procedure both times and she invalidates both my claims making me seem like I don't know what I'm doing even though I've done the research on having the procedure. she told me she refused to do it because one I'm too young and 2 she's holding on to this hope that I could have kids which is funny to me because she was one of the 2 doctors that told me I couldn't have kids and she even told me I'd have better luck winning the lottery and getting struck by lightning on the same day than be able to conceive. so instead of this procedure she has decided to put me on a medication that caused me more pain, more sleeplessness, more mood swings, more irritability, more nausea, and I even gained back some weight that I fought hard to lose, wasn't a significantly large amount but it still aggravated me.... I've talked to a few of my friends about it and a few of them said I needed to take out a malpractice claim but to me I see what they're saying but then again it seems like that's waaayyyy too drastic to do that. So really, what should I do? I've since stopped taking the medicine and have no plans to continue to take it... I'm about to call the gyno office and tell them that I am quitting the meds. I've also considered switching to a different facility

There are some who will do a hysterectomy, that Reddit list is a great place to start. As someone said though, PCOS is not cured by hysto, so you want to be aware that it will still be occurring even post operatively as PCOS is the ovaries and not the uterus itself. Also, you will very likely be hard pressed to find a doctor who will remove both ovaries at a young age due to health reasons, we need those hormones for both bone and heart health a LOT. So just be aware of what the outcome will likely be, educate yourself around that, and keep looking for a doctor who is willing to work with you

Think of it like setting a precedent to help the following people who are dealing with the same thing

If that is the route you want to go, I'm sure some doctors will listen. You might have to bounce around. On the same note, a hysterectomy does not cure PCOS. Bc your body is still producing the same unbalanced hormones/androgens (or something hormonal like that, I don't remember). PCOS is unfortunately a lifelong condition. Which sucks. But some things help. I had ovarian drilling which helped regulate my periods for many years and I think it may help increase fertility or something. Not why I did it so idk. But it is important to find a doctor who listens to your concerns and allows you to make your own decisions. I hate that- you're too young, you'll change your mind bs. It's your body. Do what's best for you. And definitely advocate for yourself, you deserve to be heard. Good luck!

https://www.reddit.com/r/childfree/wiki/doctors/ This is a link to a list of doctors who I imagine would be likely to help if you're still seeking any services regarding this issueβ€” or to anyone else who comes across this, I can't guarantee anything but these doctors have been reported to be supportive of people, especially women, making decisions about their bodies without assuming they'll regret it later because they wanted kids or something.

I was in a similar situation with my gynecologist. I started having PCOS issues just after my 1st child at age 19, but could not get anyone to listen to me. Only thing that helped was BC, which didn't work because I got pregnant again while using it. During that pregnancy, I started having extreme pain on my right side. My OB/GYN thought it might be a cyst, but could not do anything until after birth. He started with ultrasounds when my son was 6 wks old. They showed nothing, but my pain was horrible. He did an exploratory surgery and found a cyst the size of a cantaloupe. 😱 Plus multiple small ones on both ovaries. Over the next two years, I had 2 more surgeries to remove multiple cysts. Also removal of left ovary due to it being completelycovered with cysts. I fought with more than one Dr to have a hysterectomy done. They all said they would not do it because I was too young to do such a permanent solution to a potential temporary problem. I finally got one to at least tie my tubes at age 22. He told me that most Drs would not even consider doing that until age 25 and a hysterectomy was always a last resort, as a life saving type of thing. Tying my tubes helped, but it did not cure it. It made it somewhat bearable though. I am 52 now and peri-menopausal. I still wish the they would have let me have a hysterectomy. I am sure you have done your research and are making the best decision for you. You have to keep advocating for yourself. They still might make you wait until their definition of appropriate age. But keep fighting. It's your body, it's your decision. I gave up the fight and regret it. No one has the right to tell you that your only choice is a lifetime of pain. Best of luck to you! πŸ«‚ πŸ’œ πŸ™

@dolphinblues omg I couldn't imagine having a cyst that big!! I am so sorry you went through that... I plan to fight and fight for the right that I have to my own body because I shouldn't be subjected to continue to live life with this kind of pain. Thank you for the kind words πŸ«‚

There are OBGYNs out there who will do the procedure. Go hunting for one online or call around. I'd change doctors. It's your body and you can decide if you want the surgery or not.

@Allison_Tobias_929 yes exactly especially after all we are the ones who are supposed to know our own bodies best.
