When was the first time you ever felt symptoms of your mental illness? It makes me sad to remember that it was in elementary school for me. It makes me wish other people took me seriously at an earlier age and actually got me the help I needed. I feel like I didn't have a chance to have a childhood. :(

I really felt it at around 15 years old.

When I was 15 I went out for the night and when I had returned I found my bedroom destroyed and at first I was in shock and I figured it out. See, my mom is quite the drinker and she threw a temper tantrum in my room. She broke priceless stuff and pulled everything off my bed and even then she wasn't happy because she threw my mirror on the floor and broke it everywhere. I was devastated. I was so upset she couldn't find the words to apologize. But she's my mom.

It really became undeniable at around puberty for me. However, I was not diagnosed until my early 30's while in the psychiatric ward of the hospital. I'm now 46 and pretty well managed with vraylar and seroquil.

I hear you!!!!!! When I look back I can remember feeling depressed and clouded in darkness at age 3. Mental illness runs in my family so this was no surprise to me when I came to that realization. I personally didn’t receive professional help until I was abt 14, although my sister was medicated for anxiety from a young age. I wish I could console my young self. Although I’m very grateful that since I was 18 started taking my mental illnesses and mental health more seriously🙌🏻 thanks for bringing this up, clearly there’s a lot to unpack

I feel this! Mine was around 10 years old and due to trauma I don’t remember much younger than that. I’ve always been sick. That’s why when so many mental health blogs give advice to “feel like your old self again” I’m like “what old self?”
