Hi so we have a severe history of childhood abuse from strangers, specifically men that look a certain way and when we see another man that looks like our abuser we kinda get paranoid thoughts and think "that's him" because they look alike and or when we think that we tend to get close to that person (not physically) because we also favor our abuser even though it was traumatizing. For example we got close to a catfish with a picture that looks like our abuser and so we got close to him which it ended up getting us scammed... this is a big problem for us because when we see a man that looks like our abuser we get close to them hoping it is them... I just wanna know if this is normal for CPTSD and how to deal with these thoughts.

It is normal. I've been abused many times and I have weird random urges to reconnect with them or connect with people that remind me of them. OR I'll have the exact opposite reaction and want to get away cause it triggers me. This could be Stockholm symptoms but I'm not entirely sure. If I ever get through this self help book for ptsd then maybe I'll know for sure.
