Is there anyway to "act positive" or "act happy" around others even when you feel negative or irritable? We all have to do that at times in our life, but it seems impossible for me somehow. People such as my fiance, mother, father, and even my coworkers only ever see me acting annoyed, bitter, complaintive, you get the point. And they don't usually get annoyed by my behavior, it actually hurts them to see me like that. And as much as I don't care for myself much, I don't want to hurt others by how unhappy and negative I am around them, I want others to see me as a positive being, even if I'm hurt inside. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, or anyone who simply relates, feel free to comment as well! đ

You must care for yourself first. Itâs hard. Sometimes I try to compare how I treat myself to how I treat other people. Remember that youâre a people too.

Let's be real. Being positive or happy all the time is complete BS. But finding ways to cope with your depression, getting to the root of some of your feelings of irritability or negativity is possible. For me, it was me not wanting to feel that way anymore and being willing to do whatever it took to make progress. It's not a straight line. It's not perfect. It's not easy. It's not simple. But I keep trying my best to take care of my health and all we can do it our best. For me it's a combination of things- meds, lots and lots of therapy, diet, exercise, self care, self help books, support groups, etc. One day and one step at a time. But asking for help is a good start!

Not saying it's a good thing to hide it but when I do I do it by dressing up and looking cute like I it's a regular day not dressing how I feel but dressing positive to hide the way I feel.
i know its not good to bottle things up and hide how im truly feeling but i just don't know how not to with how long i have had do it bc i just now this year hot diagnosed with depression bc of going and seeing a counselor. So i understand this. i sometimes hide it and sometimes can't.
it's not healthy to lie about being positive but it is also not healthy being purely negative all the time. I would jus be honest with your family and take mental breaks around your coworkers. Find situations than actually make you calm instead of faking the positivity. For me being positive was always both a way to hide and a coping mechanism. If I had a choice I would be more honest with the ones around me but I just don't feel as if I can do that.
I just let myself feel those things around people. Ofc I'm not a bitch but im not gonna hide my emotions just bc I'm around people.
