Does anyone else have a problem with PICA as a result of their OCD? I have a problem compulsively eating paper and I'm sure it's causing me physical health issues. I also have a problem picking at my nails to the point they get infected (I've had an infected finger 3 times now). What do you recommend? I've only ever been medicated for my OCD once but had to stop because it made me lose too much weight too fast. What should I do?

Wow thank you so much! And yes it's mainly the texture/taste. I think my relationship with food as fine as I also have a good self image and healthy relationship with my body/weight. I've only tried seafood before but its hard find at the stores in my area, I might try to find a place to buy in bulk so I'll only have to make one trip. I'll look up the other snacks you recommended and see what stores nearby may have them, thank you so much! šŸ™

I do not personally have PICA, so my advice may be a stretch, however, as an outsider, this is what Iā€™m thinking: Ask yourself these questions: Why did you start eating paper? Does the paper have to be a specific color? Do you eat the paper because of the texture? What is your current relationship with food? and does that potentially trigger the compulsion to eat paper because of lack of nutrients? If color and texture are factors to consumption, perhaps trying foods that have minimal flavor, similar in color to, and similar in texture to paper, to perhaps trick your brain into thinking it is consuming paper when it is actually something edible. The foods that I can think of off the top of my head that could potentially be similar to paper would be seaweed, rice paper/rolls, thin rice cakes, wafers. There is also such thing as edible paper that is safe to consume. Perhaps look into that? I hope my thinking is at least a little bit of a contrast to how youā€™re thinking is! Best of luck!
