I’m diagnosed with derealization-depersonalization disorder. I’ve been dealing with it for 14 years, since I was about 5. For me, it does come in waves of severity but i do think i feel that sense of detachment all the time. I’ve been on zoloft (sertraline) for 7 months now for my anxiety. I think it has helped with my dissociation a bit. I wear earplugs when sound feels overwhelming in light episodes of detachment. When episodes are on the bad end of my scale, it can be an interesting feeling to kind of just let myself breathe and let that “autopilot” feeling take control. The episodes will pass and you will feel more present again. So, medication could be helpful for you, therapy is almost always worth it, and remember to try your best to take care of yourself physically. Food, water, shower, sleep. Reach out to me if you want to talk more❤️
For me it’s chronic and probably won’t go away completely, but I know it can also be temporary for a lot of people! They say more than half of people experience the feeling of derealization at least once in their life.
