My CPTSD is from an abusive marriage, and now I really struggle in my relationship to figure out what's real and what is my trauma response. I'm worried I might be in a toxic relationship again, but I also think I might just be scared because of last time. does anyone else feel like this? How do you sort your concerns out?

I was in an abusive marriage also and I’ve found that the best way to gauge whether someone is toxic is by how they handle conflict or react when you try to set a boundary they don’t like. Does he manipulate to get his way? Do see feel seen and heard? Do you feel safe? It’s hard because our central nervous system now makes us feel like love is threat even if our brain logically knows it’s not. Look up the cycle of abuse diagram and see if your new partner does any of those things. We are drawn to similar types of relationships until we do the internal work to heal the part of us that was attracted to the abusive person.

Keep notes? Helps me find patterns and know which ones are more serious. Talk to someone about the behaviors u worry could be toxic. They might help provide another perspective to bounce off of your own.
