how does everyone cope with PTSD? I'm a recent survivor or domestic violence and even though my children's father is in jail I feel worse than I did when he was here. I had my first suicidal ideation over the weekend and I felt like I was crazy. I'd never leave my children nor do I want to harm myself but I keep becoming so sad and panicked that it feels like it would be easier to not be alive. I'm starting a new medication today and I pray it brings my mood around because this is not who I am!

I understand. My PTSD stems from my childhood and my ex-husband. I have tried to end it all but obviously was unsuccessful. Thank goodness! All I know to tell you is to do what makes you happy. I used to think this was so selfish but now I think of it as self-care. Have you gone to a psychiatrist or therapy? That helped me as well. As far as the medication, sometimes it takes a while to get to a therapeutic level. Ask your doctor so you know what to expect. As far as those times when you are feeling suicidal, have a back-up plan. A friend you can call, a hobby that will take your mind off things, or simply try calling a hotline. I know the hotlines sometimes take forever, that's why it's important to have other things as backup. Write in a journal. These are all things I learned in therapy. Sometimes, nothing seems to work. That's when I write a letter to myself (or someone you love) about why I shouldn't do anything drastic. Music. Exercise. Anything to distract. Hopefully that medication helps and kicks in soon. Much love.

I’m so sorry to hear you’re going thru this 😥 I’m the same way, I never had suicidal ideations before I was traumatized but whenever I’m triggered or have flashbacks it just feels easier to stop fighting and be done with it all. I still haven’t found a solution yet but when I feel this way I try to surround myself with loved ones and spend less time alone, it really helps to just be in the presence of people you love❤️ i’m here if you ever need someone to talk to!
@Cannedbread I totally agree about being around your loved ones! So far they are the ones motivating me to keep going. Thank you for your feedback 💕
