      I've been planning to start a commune for years. I haven't made much progress yet but I'm planning on using aquaponics as my main method growing plants, a focus on growing wilderness gardens for the other plants, solar panels or water power, several varieties of poultry for eggs and meat, and potentially pigs or alpacas for revenue.

        @Elytra that sounds so cool! I’ve been researching very similar topics. Have you thought about/researched rabbits as a food and fiber source? Angora rabbit fur requires very little processing and is very in-demand.

          @CitrusGarden I have actually!! I forgot to mention rabbits also. Very easy meat source, and I didn't even think about the fur being in demand. I was originally planning on selling extra rabbits for large snake food as I've been in the reptile scene off and on since 2013 but selling their fur and probably their meat is also an excellent idea. I already plan on learning how to tan hides because I want to do work with taxidermy so that fits in well to my plans. My friend has also persuaded me to consider pigeons as a meat and egg source. I'm hoping he'll be in my commune because he fully plans on raising pigeons for that purpose.

        @canadaisntreal check out ic.org to learn about intentional communities and see what might be in your area! It’s essentially a group of non-related adults building a close-knit community based on shared values. A hippy commune is the stereotypical example but they can take many forms!
