I'm curious: I got prescribed Amitriptyline (10 mg to start, then in 2 weeks up to 20 mg) yesterday to take at night for constipation, as a sleep aid, and to help with migraine. The first night has been amazing, I slept through the night for the first time in a while. Is anyone else on this for the same or similar reasons and has it worked for you? How did you react to upping the dosage?

I’ve been on amitriptyline for years now. Initially it was the first medication I was put in to help with my chronic pains and depression. I went up onto a 50 mg dosage which felt amazing as I was able to sleep with out much tossing and turning. Because of additional prescriptions, I had to decrease the dosage or switch meds because it was interacting with others. I was able to stay on 10 mg. When trying nights of not taking it, I can notice the change. I’m constantly tossing and turning in pain, not well rested and “painsomnia” comes. When increasing dosage, I did get a little drowsy but soon adjusted to it.

I’m on the same one and it helped my sleep a lot! I started sleeping more and woke up feeling well rested. It reduced my amount of migraines slightly. Upping my dosage (im now at 75mg daily) made me sleep a little more at first but i got used to it. I’ve been on it for over about six months now and haven’t had any problems because of it :)
