Does anyone else get migraines that last for days because of your brain injury? I have ones that last for 3 or 4 days at a time and nothing I take or do seems to help. Any advice would be appreciated

@MetalCatMom I advise anyone going through constant headaches/migraines to go to an allergist and get comprehensive allergy testing done. I am post traumatic brain injury since 3 years old and thought I knew "healed" until I realized I have a low allergy to egg and soy. Most allergies/intolerances cause swelling throughout the body and any swelling around an already troubled brain really affects us 10 fold to other people.

Decongestant allergy pills and an NSAID pain reliever and non caffeinated, non alcoholic hydration is what I usually used. Turned out soy was in nearly everything we ate and I'm allergic and the decongestants I was taking also had soy lectin in the ingredients!

Mine started when I was 5 years old and never stopped. But mine started off as shaken baby syndrome, but the abuse never quit for several years.

Yes. My migraines last weeks sometimes. I take Aimovig, it’s a prevention med, CGRP inhibitor. It’s a subcutaneous injection every week. It is a god send. I barely get headaches anymore, let alone migraines!!!

No advice but I haven’t had my head not hurt since my injury 3 years ago
I have learned to reduce my suffering during those days by learning radical acceptance. I was using all my energy to fight the migraines and cringe away from them. But if I accept what I am experiencing, It can’t get worse because I am in the present, not the imagined future where it’s worse. if that makes sense. The intense fear and negativity surrounding the pain and nausea / symptoms was so strong. It helps to learn that how we feel about our symptoms is one thing we can control and it can reduce our suffering.

I was told by a brain injury specialist that she sees ppl struggle more w longer lasting migraines that don't respond to meds ...ppl who lost oxygen to thier brain during injury, like being knocked unconscious. Definitely not a great answer, or a solution.. but sometimes the answers help to make sense of things a bit more. I've been so blessed to have her in my life, shes the only one in the state. I just got switched to nurtec for my migraine med, seems to help much better than the triptans. Plus I do botox and dry needling, cupping and always wear my sunglasses. I'm super light sensitive. I also cannot work out or get my blood pressure up,I will trigger a massive migraine, flashing lights, snow plows, cops, ambulance, I will get a migraine way fast. Sometimes its the weather. I've heard great things about that liquid i.v. I'm gunna try that out
@nsiberian when did your specialist say this?

@Y0g1 i met her a few years back. I think it came up within the first year I met her
Yep! Don’t get them as frequently now. Part of it is because of your brain. Injury and part of It is likely due to triggers which you may not know are triggers. Aside from all the typical bullsh*t said I would suggest adding something like liquid iv to your drinking rotation especially when in a 4 day migraine day- I say that because I get really nauseous with my migraines and so I can’t typically eat and that at least helps a little with nutrients.. the other would be seeing if you can find if there are any triggers that pair with the brain injury to cause the long lasting migraines- maybe there aren’t any but maybe there are
@Y0g1 I'll look into that, thank you
