tw // mention of suicide Does Singulair/Montelukast cause sleeping problems? I already struggle with insomnia, but it's been worse lately. Also, recently I've been having suicidal thoughts frequently and it's getting worrisome. I'm wondering if it's because of this medication. I thought this was all happening because of my PMS but now I'm not sure.

@sourlemonz I hope the meds change is at least a partial improvement while you figure out a therapist!

Update: I had a doctor's appointment and my doctor told me to stop taking the Montelukast. She also prescribed me Lexapro, recommended me some online therapists, and upped the mgs on my sleep medication.

Not to scare you but I would reccomend looking up montelukast side effects as there was a scandal and montelukast can cause serious mental health problems. I was on it and had to come off it after stuff got really bad. Speak to ur doctor before you do anything but seriously look up the side effects as they are so often hidden from us.

@Exterminator Yeah, I saw some stuff about that when I was doing research. I took Montelukast when I was a kid so I guess my doctor didn't feel the need to tell me about any of the possible side effects, for some reason. I'm just not sure if that's what's causing my problems rn since I've only been on it for about 2-3 weeks.

@sourlemonz 2 weeks is plenty of time for a drug to build up in your system. I’m not an expert on this particular med but I’ve felt mental health side effects from meds in as little as a week, so definitely tell your doctor ASAP.

I've never had any issue from montelukast and I've never heard of it having an emotional side effect, but regardless you should tell your doctor about it to get help figuring it out

Yes, Singulair (Montelukast) can cause sleeping problems and has been associated with mental health issues, including suicidal thoughts. It is important to discuss these concerns with your doctor, who can help determine if the medication is contributing to your symptoms and suggest alternative treatments if necessary.
