hello. I have been struggling & suffering major depression since 1994. I have attempted several antidepressants over the years. (nardil, pamelor, Zoloft, paxil, effexor) Have even attempted TMS daily x 6weeks. minimal help with all. currently taking Prozac 60 mg a day. does not seem to be hoping anymore. don't know what route to look at now. any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've tried many things over the years and nothing helped until Latuda. Maybe ask about it? It's newer I think

yes. I attempted Latuda as well . Unfortunately, I developed tardive dyskinesia while taking and was discontinued. I was on it for approx. 3-4 weeks and I felt it was helping

I noticed you tagged bipolar but listed major depression in your post. Your diagnosis does matter here because a lot of people with bipolar have bad reactions to antidepressants. Mood stabilizers work better. Latuda is an option for sure, but if you have bipolar I would look at anticonvulsants first since they tend to have fewer negative side effects than antipsychotics. I personally take Lamictal and have had a wonderful experience. I don’t get side effects at all (except for a rash I had for a few days when I first started taking the med). This is significant because I’m someone that literally gets every rare side effect ever. I like Lamictal because it helps with the depression elements of bipolar which is the bigger concern for me. I’ve tried Latuda before and it personally made me much more suicidal. I’ve also tried Abilify as someone suggested above and got so nauseous that I could barely eat one meal a day. Most people don’t have that many side effects on those meds and they are safe an everything. I just have a weird med experience lol. But still in general anticonvulsants are better for your body long term than antipsychotics. Ultimately what matters is if the med helps your mental health, but I’d try things that are gentler on your body first:) Hopefully this makes sense. I’m trying this right before bed.

Thank you so much for sharing this information. You obviously head similar issues with several attempts at different medications as well. For me most just didn't work, made me suicidal, or gave me unbearable side effects to be able to live from day to day and function at work. I'm so Glad you have found something that seems to work for your symptoms. I do have a doctor's appointment next week, and have been thinking about asking to try a different type of medications again. Like I said I've been my own Prozac 60 mg daily for years, used to help, however now seems like I've built up a tolerance with medication and it's not helping anymore. And it is very important to be on the right classification of drugs for these mental struggles. I'll keep you posted as to what they recommend. Again thank you so much have a good night
