How do you guy start eating healthier while too low energy to cook? I have a horrible diet, largely being heat up instant food, sweets, or bread. I know the sodium content is bad enough but I already don't eat enough as well as being unhealthy it's a terrible combo. It's been like this for years and unless someone offers me food, I don't really get (home) cooked meals besides the rare chance of takeout. I also am fairly poor and vegetarian so that's even more limiting to my options. I don't know how people do it, it's so difficult because when I buy food to cook I end up not and it stays in a cupboard or the refrigerator/freezer until it goes bad... it's such a waste and I just end up feeling guilty. :(

I switched to air fryer and never went back. I have 2, just in case. My selections are easy prep and easy clean up. I use cake or loaf pans a lot. Throw in dishwasher. I cut misc food grade ovenproof silicone to line bottoms (helps cleanup). Unlike oven or toaster over or stovetop, i have yet to burn anything. I "set it and forget it". The air fryer cools quick enough that i dont have to be concerned with rushing to get the food out. Vegetarian can be a bit trickier but im sure theres plenty of help out ther, just google.

Thank you everyone for your advice on this and sharing! I'll definitely try to incorporate some where I can. Figuring out what's new, good, and fairly healthy while being low maintenance will be a shift from my (unfortunate) routine, but I want to get there. Much appreciated! ❤️‍🩹

I've been trying to get better at this too! What I've started to do is to make a healthy soup in the slow cooker like a lentil chili or something, and then freeze portions of it for lunches on other days. I usually get a bagged salad or make a sandwich to go with it. Slow cookers make things so much easier for me. Another thing I've been doing is getting bags of frozen veggies. My favorite is this Simply Steam Mrs. Dash seasoned veggies and put some shredded cheese on it. And then bake a protein like salmon or a chicken breast or several at a time for leftovers. Hope I helped.

Soup from a can or made in bulk and froze, pre-made salad, smoothies.

Frozen berries, mixed greens with fun toppings thrown on top, yogurt+cereal combos for tasty parfaits, mixing canned vegetables with your preferred seasonings (I like garlic, salt, and lemon juice) and things like crackers and hummus. On a higher energy day, I would suggest sitting to conserve energy, you can cut some cheeses into cubes and make a number of ziplock bagged snack mixes with the cubes and any fruits, veggies, nuts, ect that you like as quick healthy snacks for when you're having troubles with food as well as making more simple and lower energy pasta, rice, casseroles, ect and freezing them to dethaw and reheat later at your own convenience

@i_am_alex no problem! I forgot a tip, bc I mostly use this tip for making rat treats, but you can make pancakes by making your usual mix and then pouring it in a buttered cake pan and baking it, I like cutting it into bite sized squares. It can be more cost effective/potentially healthier if you get a large thing of regular pancake mix and throw in any fruits (like the berries lol) and any spices you'd prefer. That way you can stay sitting for most of or all of the cooking and not have to worry about flipping pancakes on a hot stove!

I'm the same way! My best advice is non perishables and sitting down while cooking.

Frozen meals and like salads can be healthy and don't really involve cooking. Just need to find a regiment that works for u. I hated salad till I started putting craisins and hummus in them

Buy a bigass container of mixed greens and put fun toppings on your serving like white beans, chickpeas, sesame seeds, onion crisps, cheese, nuts, craisins, bowtie pasta, cucumber, avocado, tomatoes, carrots, bell peppers, etc. And find a dressing you love! Good on its own or with soup, grilled cheese, pasta, pizza -- pretty much anything. Helps me when I don't want to eat or exert much effort cooking. It's a super healthy and filling meal.

I also find that cooking for me doesn’t always work in my favor. I’d either cook it then feel super sick and just put it away for later, or I don’t have anything prepared and I resort to my local Wendy’s for a French fry and frosty. It’s not impossible, but taking baby steps such as saying “I’ll just cook tonight, and make it leftovers for tomorrow” or “I’ll prep the chicken today, cook pasta tomorrow, then put it together the day after” makes it a little easier for me

Premier Protien shakes and powder have been my go to..really any protien powder/meal shakes..if I have the energy, I'll toss it in my blender with some fresh fruit and/or ice for more of a sweet treat. Or even just throwing some pumkin pie spice into my vanilla shake makes it feel so much more like a treat, but I'm getting a decent amount of needed nutrients
