I’ve found that only combination birth control works— progesterone only was better than nothing, but I still had a lot of pain
Birth control is the doctors "one size fits all" PCOS solution. It does not fit everyone. Don't be afraid to look into alternate methods of balancing your hormones.
Try NSAIDs like ibuprofen/Advil, acetaminophen/Tylenol, Naproxen Sodium, aspirin, etc.... I, personally, cannot take any hormonal birth control at all and paraguard made my back pain worse. Good luck. Keep trying. I am hoping to get a hysterectomy myself.
I personally was chose the depo shot because it eventually stops your period altogether. I’m due for my 4th shot in a couple of weeks and I haven’t had any pain since my 2nd shot. I would say the side effects that affected me the most thus far is the spotting and lower libido. At this point my libido has improved although the spotting is still a bit annoying. I am still having a period, however it’s extremely light and pain free.
