I told my boyfriend he should do research on bipolar 2 because he really doesn't understand and says some ignorant things sometimes but he seemed like he took offense to it. is there a nice way to ask someone to research your condition? I just want him to understand better

i put my diagnosis in all of my dating profiles. even though i was upfront i still have to guide my gf through stuff but overall she’s done a fantastic job of being understanding and patient.

Took offense to it? That's a red flag, maybe he needs to be diagnosed himself. People that harm others need to be told what's wrong with them, if you don't have the psychology or words in you you need to get someone to explain to him how the fact that he took offense to it is mentally ill itself, if you don't understand how it is, study psychology and the dsm5

I got diagnosed just after I got married and my husband was scared. I tried explaining to him that I'm still the same person, just now we know what it is so we can work on treating it and manage it better. He knew nothing about it and the only reference he had was a couple characters in the show shameless. I've had him come to a few counseling sessions with me, and gave him the floor so he could ask my counselor whatever questions he had. Hes also gone to a couple psychiatrist appointments with me to get a better idea of whats going on. Aside from that I've done more research and explained it to him the best I can. I'm working on my bachelor's in psychology (6 classes left!) So he tends to take what I say on the matter to heart.
