I everyone, today is the 1st day of taking Ritalin 5mg. I have CFS and was taking Kratom a few months for a stimulant and was working well. Dr thought a prescription Wud b better since Kratom isn't well known or tested. Does that low a dose help others? any side affects? tell me all about it, NEVER in my life taken a stimulant, I'm 42yrs old.

@Phillio I’m so glad you feel you have another option to try! My doc also couldn’t understand why I didn’t like the XR, since it’s seen as more advanced, but it was not working for me.

I second that it's been 4 days and my personality is coming back and I can think now. Still have trouble sometimes getting words or remembering some stuff but I can say I'm at least 50% or more better now. The only issue now is my pain is back. Kratom helped w that and I wasn't taking the opiate hardly. But my pain management does a UA for Kratom specifically and he said DO NOT take it w another stimulant. Now I'm back 2 taking 2 a day, but I'm prescribed 3a day. I just wish I cud stop taking that all together. But I can hardly walk if I don't take it. I can already feel the Ritalin wearing off early at about 2-4pm. I take at 6:30am. Do u know how long it's supposed 2 last? I figured 8hrs. I worry I won't sleep if I take another whole 5mg n the middle of the day. It effects the medical marijuana as well, works differently, gotta smoke more. I do that at night for sleep.

@Jlync80 sounds like you’re on a strange combo of stimulants and depressants. My doc kept trying to push antidepressants on me too. Zoloft gave me hallucinations. It was the worst I felt mentally in a while. 10mg at 7am, about an hour before I start work, and then a half dose around noon is best for me. By 6pm I feel like it has completely worn off, so not great for trying to put words together, but I’m able to get to sleep at night.

@TrixNY I been on Effexor for awhile now. If I don't take it 1 day I have all kinds of issues. It's more for the pain than depression and I def feel it when I don't take.

Thankfully it's not extended release just regular. I have issues w sleep so he didn't wanna interfere with that using extended release. He did tell me I Wud have 2 adjust the meds a few times. But so far so good, 3 days now, it has given me more focus as well, my brain fog from CFS is so so bad lately. Not increasing until it stops working all together. It does wear off early tho so probably might ask for 2x daily and take 2nd if needed. Thankfully tho I didn't have any withdrawal symptoms from Kratom and haven't even wanted or needed it.

@Jlync80 I’m so glad you’re feeling the benefits of it. I honestly feel Adderall or Ritalin should be offered to anyone with CFS, SLE, etc. it has helped me so much with brain fog.

I’m 44 and have been off and on Adderall or Ritalin for the last 15 years. Originally for ADD, and I have stayed on it for lupus brain fog. My two cents: - 5mg is a very low dose. I am also a teacher and that’s the dose given to 12 yr olds. - Keep your dose low for as long as possible. These are addictive substances that your body eventually gets used to. - Try to skip a day here and there so that you don’t build up a tolerance. I try not to take mine on weekends, but sometimes I do. I take 10mg am and 5mg pm. - I do not recommend the extended release (xr) of either of these! You never know when the drug will and won’t take effect throughout the day. I’ve had lunch periods where I’ve been hyper focused on the ingredients in my salad dressing and then lesson periods where I could barely focus. In my opinion, better to microdose throughout the morning. Good luck and hope it helps! 🙌

@TrixNY I really appreciated reading this. I have been on XR since I was 7 and when I was 14 is started to stop working. Now I am 21 and it doesn't help at all. I tried to explain to my psychiatrist that my energy isnt consistent and my focus is at random points and honestly I think I confused him. Seeing that someone else had the same experience and found aid in medication had encouraged me to try again (:

@TrixNY I also say don't take the extended release, my husband did and it just wasn't any good for him either

@YanyLaurel I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who feels this way. It was worse than no meds at all, for me.

@Jlync80 I'm so glad it is helping you!!! I take mine right before I feel like I am officially getting started with my day. Since I forget to eat breakfast sometimes it's right before that. On Saturdays I have chores, so I take one or two right before I start that
