Does anyone have advice for overcoming a song 'trigger'? I hesitate to call it a trigger because I'm unsure if it would constitute as one. When I hear it or think about hearing to it, I get extremely anxious and it immediately brings me to a bad place. I've tried to re-expose the song to myself, but before I can play it, I get too anxious, to the point where I feel like my throats closing up, so I never do. If anyone has advice, I would greatly appreciate it šŸ’•šŸ¤²

Sometimes, certain combinations of sounds can bring a natural fight or flight response, especially due to trauma. There is no need to force yourself to this type of thing. I learned that late in life, but it's true.

i think that if the song isnā€™t super popular, there isnā€™t anything wrong with avoiding it. usually working past triggers is something that is great for when you cant avoid the trigger, but it may be more effort than it is worth to expose yourself to it when it may not show up in your life often enough. If it is popular, I would also make sure the exposure is done properly with the help of a professional, instead of on your own. It will be so helpful to have that support while you do it!!

That would be called a trigger. Honestly it really depends on your situation and why it triggers you. If you're in a bad space mentally, it would be better to avoid the song until you're in a better place if possible. If you think exposing yourself to it is REALLY a good idea (please think it through properly), you could put it on loop on YouTube and put distance between yourself and the device you're using
