I just recently got diagnosed with Complex PTSD, sometimes I don't even believe it because I feel like I'm not like others with PTSD. How did yall come to terms with it?

Never compare your trauma to someone else's, what you went through is your trauma and it is valid even if it affects you differently or you think others have it worse. I've struggled with this before but remember it is valid. My dms are always open if you want to talk šŸ’•

I'm still learning how to cope especially since I don't have a support system, but I'm trying to train my own service dog to help me

I got diagnosed with PTSD in 2016, and re-diagnosed very recently! I was (and still am) in denial of my diagnosis because I felt I wasn't "stereotypical" enough to actually have it. I always thought I was faking it. But you begin to realize that some tendencies you do are not typical for other people. I can't function if my back is facing an open door, and I get very irrational with people who consistently stand behind me. I could make a whole itemized list of things I do that aren't normal. But the bottom line is, some things seem normal to you because you've been subconsciously doing them for years as a result of your trauma, and you start to accept these dysfunctions and you constantly being on "survival mode" as everyday life, and the status quo. It usually isn't the case.

@Ymura But people react to things differently because we're all human! Just because you don't have X & Y symptoms doesn't make you less valid than the next person. We are all surviving and healing in our own ways, it is not a competition

I always felt the same way until I just realized that some of my behaviors ARE ptsd they are just unique to me and my situations. Being kind to yourself and stop doubting I used to always kind of forget that Iā€™ve been through some crazy stuff and thereā€™s no way it didnā€™t have an impact so Iā€™d think I was just crazy or dramatic but no, itā€™s the trauma response

it's complex because it's pretty different, I just am grateful I got the "Easier" side, and understand Finally where a bunch of my issues direct from it and my trauma.

Take it day by day. Follow your treatment plan even when it sounds stupid. I got diagnosed 2 years ago, but ive come so far in that time. Even though at times i felt stuck, or depressed, nightmares, etc. Just keep going.
