this is more just a general therapy question: does anyone have advice for when you've been seeing a therapist and the feedback and interaction you get from them is literally two things and when you try to talk about something else that you want to work on they derail and circle back to the two original things? in my case it's jobs and my strengths. if I try to talk about a friendship I'm struggling to navigate it somehow turns back into my job?? like it's a broken record with this therapist: "you're a great people person and you'd do well in medical field" that's what our sessions over the course of a year has been and I don't know what to say to my therapist. I want to process my trauma and when I tell them they say, "well the past is the past gotta leave it there". I don't want to ghost them but also I feel like my 35$ copay could be spent on something more productive.

Finding the right therapist is like finding the right partner. When you know, you know!

Thank you guys for the support ❤️ I am sad since their profile online claims they have a background in PTSD, LGBTQ+, and ASD which were all things I wanted to cover with them. I think I was hoping things would turn around but after the amount of time that's past I don't think it's going to happen.

I definitely agree with the general consensus that it may be time to find a new therapist. Your therapist should never shut you down or discount topics that are important to you!

i agree with the previous two responders- it sounds like you need a new therapist whose therapy style is more compatible with what you need
