Do you ever wish you weren't autistic?

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like, but ultimately I believe I live a more colorful and authentic experience than I believe a lot of neurotypicals do. I do wish that autism truths and autistic experiences were more mainstream and cool.

I've thought it at least once every day of my life since I was diagnosed as a kid. I have always wondered what it would be like to not focus on all the stims that keep me sane.

Sometimes, sure. And there's no shame in that. I discovered my condition fairly late and I can't help but wonder sometimes what things would have been like as a neurotypical. Ultimately I like being different, but there's no shame in wishing the struggles weren't so hard sometimes. That's called being human.

Honestly, yes. I know it isn't a very popular opinion. I'm staunchly anti-"cure", anti A$... but I wish I wasn't autistic. Societal changes won't change my motor skills, my irritability, my sensory issues... This is just me though. Not trying to speak for anyone else or argue.

@Kitty23 I really wish I had any pride in being autistic like so many others do. But I have none.

@Kitty23 i struggle to have pride, too. Truth is so much pain and trauma would have been avoided. And society isn't changing any time soon so its not going to get easier.

When I was younger, I absolutely would have said yes. But I think my autism makes me unique and I like myself just the way I am. Sure, the world makes my life a hell of a lot harder than it needs to be, and ableism is a bitch to deal with. But, again, I really like who I am.

no i just wish people weren’t ableist and wish the world were more accommodating and not centered only on neurotypical people 🙏
