I hate how my mom and dad are never proud of me or happy for me. they just poke holes in whatever I tell them I accomplished and focus on the negative. now it's hard for me to feel genuine joy and optimism I constantly feel like I'm not enough.

@Tastycupcakes thank you! I'm gonna try that right now and take a look at the adult chair! It's so frustrating to beg for validation 😭 and I realize now my perfectionism and never feeling deserving of anything came from them

My mom was/is like that. I just dont tell her anything anymore and made friends with positive encouraging people they are the ones (all separately i dont do friends in groups) about good things happening or thinks im looking forward to doing. I gave up on parental encouragement years ago.

You've made a big step in healing from that in pinpointing where your insecurities come from. Like the other commenter said, try some inner child healing like, getting a figure/game that your parents wouldn't let you get to display. Favorite childhood snack. Just nurture your inner child. Tell them that you're sorry that they had to endure your parents shortcomings and that you're there for them now. Also start like praise yourself for even little accomplishments and work your way up (you don't have to like jump and down and shout, but if you wanna sure I guess 😆). Cheer yourself on. Cause you are your best advocate and cheerleader.

<3 sorry you are being raised by people who don't consider your feelings, I understand how shitty it can feel. If you get the chance, listening to a podcast my therapist recommended called the adult chair. It goes through a bit about reparenting yourself and learning to give your inner child what it needs to feel more fulfilled. ^^ one example is when you feel lonely and would want a hug, give yourself a hug and tell yourself you are loved! Your brain doesn't recognize the difference between getting a hug from someone else or giving one to yourself it produces mostly the same happy juices.
