Does anyone know how to go about getting onto disability for IBS (with diarrhea) since I had Covid my symptoms have gotten a lot worse, many bathroom trips that take 90 plus minutes each time, only way I can (maybe) work is by not eating breakfast or lunch and no drinking anything till I get home as it triggers me and I can't randomly take a 90 minute bathroom break. eating has gotten more difficult I use to be able to just eat a days worth of food after work which would bother me but at least I could work still now for a month I've only been able to eat around 500-800 maybe 1000 on a good day, I need 1500 a day for a healthy weight, so I've been losing weight. The pain from my IBS now is constant, I'd say 7/10 and it keeps me up so I can't sleep till I pass out from exhaustion, I tend to wake up every hour in pain and then can't sleep again even if I'm tired and it just repeats. so with all of this combined it makes work very difficult if not impossible, I fear that I'll mess up something big one day from exhaustion or that I'll just end up collapsing from being unable to eat or drink while at work (and not able to eat much when I'm home) I've delt with this for 11 years, I have many documented treatments of all this, I plan on seeing my gastro doctor soon to tell them about how much worse this has gotten. is there any hope that I may be able to get disability after describing these symptoms, I'm aware it will take a VERY long time and that I need doctors on my side, I just don't know how to do this anymore, I'm exhausted tired and in pain all the time no medicine that I have taken has worked after trying thing after thing for 11 years and my Ibs is at it's worse. thank you for any info it means the world as I try and figure out how to get by.

To get disability, you'll need evidence that the disorder keeps you from the quality of life and participation in the workforce you would otherwise have. They will want proof, documentation of the health condition's consequences overtime AND of your attempts to treat it. This can include documentation of time missed from work, personal records of symptoms, info from your current and previous doctors, and records of the meds you've tried and the results you had while taking them. It's a long process and you need to find a representative in your area to help. Hope that helps!

I've gotten a disability percentage for IBS, I didn't have to fight for it, but I'm also in the military so it was fairly easy for me. I definitely recommend a medication for IBS, ever since I started taking dicyclomine by bowel movements have become somewhat regular

You could definitely try to go for disability but you'll most likely need to fight for it.
