Being autistic and having a ‘normal’ job sucks. Everyone expects you to act NT, which requires some serious masking. And at the end of the day, I’m drained from all that effort. And that’s from just trying to act normal, to say nothing of the responsibilities of the job as well. Every day I go home feeling dead. Anybody else?
we'll also try rubber bands on your wrist and when you get drained make sure you drink lots of water and don't have a lot of sweets because sometimes that can make it worse
Honestly that's how I felt when I had a job before my autism diagnosis. I quit when it got to be more than I could handle. I've been unemployed 3 years, finally got my autism diagnosis a few months ago, and now looking for a job. But that's what terrifies me most is that I'll get what appears to be a good fit and end up feeling drained and practically dead at the end of the day.
I fully agree. I work from home for a call center, and have to mask all the time, and then when the patient yells at me, that brings up the anxiety. I am so worn out by the end of shift.
