I just got out of an abusive relationship and my BPD makes it hard to cope. Does anyone have any advise ?

    Have you ever heard of or tried DBT or CBT? I was diagnosed with BPD in 2002 and DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) saved my life. It stops living in terms of black/white, feeling like everything is "done to you", and dealing with intense, impulsive emotions.

      I do have a therapist although I haven't started actual therapy yet. I am good at realizing when my thoughts are not realistic but I do have slip ups. Even when I felt like everything was "done to me" I would just separate myself from my ex when we where together so I don't take it out on him. But nothing was ever good enough. I couldn't always tell if it was in my head or not so if I had impulse emotions I'd journal them but he'd read my journals and blow up on me for talking about him. I think he might be an abusive BPD person and he was scary to be around. He would lie and gaslight me, torment and harass me. He was violent and aggressive but only did physical harm 1 time. Even after he broke up with me he made fake accounts so stalk and harass me online. He lied to me and then tried to cover it up and told me I was crazy. He was my FP and he used that to his advantage.

        oh my! SO relieved you got away from that situation! Who needs that?! Mental abuse is just as, if not more than harmful as physical. Bruises go away, but emotial abuse can take far longer to recover from. It sounds like you have some great self-awareness and therapy will only make you stronger! I think you're already on the road to success, keep it up girl!

    Definitely DBT!! If you’re really going through it like I was after my last very big/bad breakup you should consider an outpatient program at a local hospital. If you can’t afford the treatment there should be financial help offered. It saved my life when I thought my whole world was ending after that breakup. I still use DBT tactics daily still and I’m grateful for all that I learned. Don’t be afraid to seek the treatment you need, you deserve happiness:)
