I have been speaking with my therapist about the potential of me having ASD for some time now. We've come to the conclusion that I should begin discussing this with medical professionals since she has reason to believe that this is diagnosable. The issue is that even though I am 18, I have awful anxiety and cannot do things like this on my own; that being said, my mom is not being understanding about it and I'm not sure how to go about doing this on my own. Does anyone have advice on how I could cope ahead and begin the process?

I went to a psychiatrist at age 25 and everytime I went to see them I asked to be referred to a person who diagnoses adults with autism. The doctor who diagnosed me was in the Behavioral Health department. Make an appointment with your primary care doc and talk about it. Keep going until you get tested. If you have a supportive friend then ask them to accompany you to be back up and cheerleader. You can do it.
