Hi I'm new but hoping to use this app to find other people with similar struggles to me! I have DID, and dissociation has been interfering pretty severely with my school life, sleep schedule, and obviously self image. I use things to keep track of alters/fronts, but managing the physical symptoms (headaches, dizzyness, amnesia) is draining my life force. I've only been aware of my condition for around a year but I know I've been experiencing symptoms for much longer. Any help or advice is appreciated!
That makes sense. We've definitely got our struggles with getting along but I feel fairly close with everyone. There's only around 14 of us, but we have pretty differing opinions on integration. I for one really like the idea of feeling whole again. I think I feel the most hollowed out and listless, if that makes sense? But for most of them, they feel like very complete people with their own interests and have no desire to "fuse" whatsoever. So I don't really know if our long term game plan even can be becoming one, unfortunately.
Communication is KEY!! That is really my only big piece of advice. And teamwork too, of course. Pick one, two, or maybe a few alters to do certain tasks. For us, me and our gatekeeper James do the job the most. Foster handles social interactions and driving. Brett and Astrid handle self care. I front the most out of everyone, but we have learned to communicate and take turns, especially when dealing with chronic pain and such. I'm usually the one that deals with those physical symptoms, but sometimes it can get overwhelming and someone will offer to "tag in" for a few hours to give me a break. Of course they don't like pain either but it's not fair for me to have to hamdle it at all times, and they have come to understand that. Teamwork makes the dream work.
Of course, there are always issues. Foster almost never sleeps so if he is up at night we will stay up most of the night. Sometimes people get hyperfixated on stuff and we don't get work done. It's not all dandy and perfect, but we are working on it! Final fusion isn't our goal, we hope to function as someone who is multiple. To do that you need communication.
Hope this helps!
