It depends on the situation I’m in.
S.T.O.P.P helps me a lot, aroma therapy, cold ice cub on hand or ice pack over eyes, talking to someone I trust, yoga, going for a walk, putting on calming music are some of my go to things
S - stop, freeze and just stop what you’re doing
T-take a break/step back, take some deep breaths and focus inwards
O-observer, what are others doing? How are the reacting? What thoughts are you having? What are you feelings whether physical or mental?
P-plan, what should you do to calm down or how to leave the situation
P-proceed, put what you planned into action
May not be the best option, but I found dissociation helps me. But in a healthy way. It's like turning your attention to something else or keeping occupied, but make sure you have headphones on or try watching a movie. Something that will really grab your attention. If the patience isn't there, more music and a walk might help. There's plenty of lofi lives on YouTube. Also research and videos about history or odd facts sometimes help. Good channel is "weird history"
For me what helps is I play with a fidget toy. I also have meds to help sudden attacks. Talking to myself in the bathroom to calm myself down. I call someone like my boyfriend . I color. Play a game to distract myself . Go for a run
I have a finger technique where I touch my fingertips to my thumb, but each finger is assigned a number (except for the thumb) and try to keep track of which number (finger) I'm touching to my thumb
so like,
finger 1
finger 2
finger 3
finger 4
then ill do it really random so theres no pattern and I have to keep track of them
like
3, 1, 3, 4, 2, 3, 2, 4, 4, 1, 2, 4, 1, 3
it's a bit weird but it's the only thing that works for me when I start panicking or feeling anxious. gives me something discreet to focus on.
