I got my results from my pap smear and it's abnormal. High grade cells, positive for HPV 16. I had sex the night before, thinking it wouldn't effect anything. Could that have effected the results? They used to say low grade and now it's high grade. And now I need a colposcopy. I'm so worried it's cancer. Plus I was going to start trying to get pregnant. Now I can't.
Typically you shouldn't have sex or have anything inserted (tampons, dildo, lube, etc.) at least 2 days in advance of your pap or colposcopy. If you tested positive for HPV 16 at any stage then absolutely get in for a colposcopy asap. They will most likely do a biopsy and hopefully it's early enough that anything they collect they won't have to go back in for again. How long had it been from when you tested low grade to high grade? No matter what, and I know this is so much easier said than done, don't allow yourself to succumb to panic. At best the test was wrong and you're either low grade or negative. They will discuss with you what your options are if it comes back with anything too concerning. And do NOT be afraid to ask them any questions you might have. It's scary no matter what type you get, so stay strong ❤🫂
