I've been experiencing moderate to severe pelvic pain off and on since Thanksgiving last year. I've consulted with my OB-GYN and my family doc. They both seem to agree this is gastrointestinal, but I've had digestive problems in the past, and this feels completely different. It's lower, while before it was definitely in my intestinal tract. Also before it always went away when I had a bowel movement. This time the pain will disappear for weeks and then hit me out of the blue. It hurts so bad that I am often in tears until it passes. I also notice when I am really irregular, my stool will have dark spots in it and I am trying to figure out if that is blood or something else. I was advised to switch to a FODMAP diet and keep a food diary, but so far I have not been able to keep to it because there is a lot of conflicting information out there. Any thoughts?

You have a regular GI Dr? I'm ditching my old GI Dr for a lack of him being interested in actually treating me ,now that he's found 2 serious issues GI related. Gastroparesis & a Hiatal hernia... I also have an irritable bowel. But not IBS he's told me, since I don't experience abdominal pain also
I have an appointment at the end of August. Soonest they could get me in. I'm honestly not sure what they're going to do with this. My mother-in-law has very similar symptoms and she was told it is diverticulitis, not IBD. The FODMAP diet is supposed to help that, too, but the trouble is I'm getting a lot of conflicting information about it and I also had an allergic reaction to something else I was eating, likely almonds, as a substitute for dairy. But I won't know that for sure until I get a scratch test. That doc can't see me until the middle of July. Just feeling very overwhelmed and like there is just nothing safe to eat.
it is very frustrating when all you want to do is eat yet everything makes pain worse. Were there any stress related events around the times of the recurrence? Or anything that was different when it hit out of the blue? The elimination diet/low format diet is great but very restrictive and not sustainable. Some general tips until you could get in to see someone would be to minimize your cruciferous vegetable intake (to minimize fermentation in your large intestine/lower abdomen, and try keeping a food journal atheist noting specifically meals that coincide with the flare-up. I personally like to note my emotions jounraling during that time as well because I often feel physical pain before I realize it is tied to my mental state.
