Does anyone take Seroquel for PTSD? My abusive husband passed away unexpectedly and I'm taking Seroquel for insomnia mainly.

I took Seroquel for my psychosis, more specifically my major depressive disorder with psychotic features. Well, I took the off-brand quetiapine. But they should be the same thing. I was on 200 mg a dose, 1x a day. I learned later from a new and updated medical professional that was not the one who prescribed it that if i take Seroquel or Quetiapine for extended periods of time i must: 1. preferably already have psychosis because it runs the risk of giving some predisposed people psychosis or psychotic features if they didn't already have them. For this reason it was told to me not to up the dosage for it as a sleep aid for my insomnia and that it was currently being over prescribed as a sleep aid. 2. I need to get my chest monitored and scanned preferably at least yearly if I use it long term, because extended years of use can lead to circulatory and respiratory issues, meaning my heart and lungs needed to be monitored actively. 3. 200 mg is a low-ish dose, 300-600 mg is standard for most disorders it is prescribed for. Anyway, I don't take it anymore. My first rxer never told me any of this and I felt kind of betrayed.

@ViikMal oh man...that's a lot of horrible things. I only take 25mg and I'm planning to stop it as soon as I can...especially after reading this post of yours!!! I'm not sure what other meds would be good for insomnia and PTSD and OCD

@consciousitalics I used to take clonazepam, but that's a benzodiazepine which doctors aren't fond of prescribing anymore and I took it for anxiety it just happened to have the effect that it made me sleep. Right now hydroxyzine is in the same boat and it's a non-addictive non-benzo also primarily used for my anxiety but I take at night because it puts me to sleep. Other than that strictly for sleep I use melatonin which is an over-the-counter thing.

      Does it seem to help?

@Vonniek It does, for now. I've only been on it for 2 months. I'm worried about the weight gain (so far none but it's early days...) and I'm looking for something else that's good for my conditions (PTSD/OCD/anxiety)

Yes, some people take Seroquel for PTSD-related symptoms. One user mentioned taking Seroquel to help with sleep due to their anxiety, which could be related to their PTSD. However, it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the best treatment for your specific situation.
