Does anyone feel like during their depressive episodes they love their partners less? I know I love my boyfriend, more than words can express, and I can feel it when I'm (hypo)manic but my depressive episodes make me feel like he can even be an annoyance sometimes, which I'm never mean to him, it's just the way I'll fell sometimes. And I don't understand it.

I can 100% relate to this. I have been struggling with it a lot recently. My bf and I have been together almost 4 years but when I go into a depressive episode I just feel like I want to shut him out and find myself calling him less and seeing him less. I have been doing my best to communicate this to him because I know it’s hard on him as well. I would suggest making sure you’re communicating the temporary feelings with your significant other and be patient with yourself. You can get through this! let me know if you need to talk!

I don't know if this will help but I've told my husband when he wants to take me out on a date don't ask, just make sure my schedule is clear, give me an idea of what to wear and make me go. Sometimes that's the only thing that can bring me out of a depression because I'm not going to willingly go somewhere.

I'm not sure if it's the same but when I'm in a depressed state I tend to get really numb so I don't really feel love as much. I just feel like I'm on auto pilot

I think it's easy to be irritable and grumpy while depressed, I don't think you necessarily love him less. If it helps cheer you up, while you're depressed you could plan dates on a note card, then put them in a mason jar, and when you don't know what you want to do together you can pick one. It might be a comfortable way of showing him you love him without putting yourself in a situation to get annoyed

@Aaronb03 that's honestly really smart, thank you for the advice, and the comfort:)

I'm like that too. I love my parents to death but when I'm depressed, I get annoyed at them for everything

@Rene1027 I used my parents as an example because I am single.

@Rene1027 I understand, I'm just glad to know I'm not alone in it. It makes me feel like such a bad partner sometimes, or even a bad friend.
