Hi. I have OCD which involves checking locks, stoves, alarms, etc. I have to do this a specific amount of times. The amount of times can be 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 or equal those numbers when added. I also need to have the TV volume to the number 5 while going to sleep. I feel like if I don't do these things and with the right number of times, something bad will occur. My health will get worse, or someone in my family's health could deteriorate. My pets could die, Me, my children or other family members could die. I know it doesn't make logical sense, but I don't feel like I can stop it. The few times I've tried it seemed that something bad had happened. I know it doesn't make logical sense. Does anyone else have ocd about certain numbers and if you don't do these particular rituals it feels like impending doom?

I was really against the number 3 for years!! I could not even eat three of anything so if I had to have 3, I would split one before eating it to make it a 4th piece.

It makes me feel less alone knowing I am not the only one dealing with this type of OCD. Unfortunately, mine seems like it has gotten worse over the years. I have brought up my OCD to therapists and they don't have experience in dealing with it so it gets brushed off.

When I was younger, I had certain numbers I liked and certain ones I disliked. I preferred the numbers 2, 5, 7, 8, etc. I disliked the “bad” numbers 3, 6, 12. And had neutral numbers like 1 and 11. I thought that if I used the bad numbers, it would indicate that I am evil. It’s exhausting having to check things over and over.
