For a very long time I was fairly certain I had ADD, after getting tested, it came back negative, however, some of the results pointed towards the possibility of Bipolar disorder or BPD. Is this common to confuse your symptoms for, possibly, another mental illness? For context I have a history of MDD.

so to clarify, yes it’s totally normal! every year we keep learning more about the wide range of mental health disorders & the differences among them. there was a time when people literally thought anxiety & depression were the same thing! wishing u the best on ur mental health journey, misdiagnoses are incredibly common! 💓

hey there! so just based on the little i know, there are quite a few commonalities between ADHD, MDD, BPD and bipolar disorder. between ADHD and MDD, you have the low motivation, trouble w/concentration, occasional lack of energy with inattentive ADHD types, etc. with BPD and bipolar disorder there’s the impulsivity aspect & emotional “ups & downs”, but the difference is that with bipolar disorder there are actual depressive/manic episodes last MUCH longer, whereas those with BPD may experience a myriad of emotions in a single day. hope this helps!! -an unemployed psych major 🤪💓
